Workers’ compensation covers medical treatment and a portion of lost wages, and in exchange it bars most suits against the employer. It does not bar a claim against anyone else — and on a typical job site there is usually someone else.
Equipment manufacturers, maintenance contractors, property owners, and other trades on site all fall outside the compensation bar. Those third-party claims reach categories of damages, including pain and suffering, that a compensation claim cannot.
